What are fibroids?

Fibroids are unusual growths that can develop in or on the uterus. While they are typically noncancerous, they can cause discomfort, especially when they become large.

Symptoms of fibroids:
Heavy bleeding, menstrual clots, abdominal swelling, increased urination, and discomfort during intercourse.

Causes of fibroids:
The exact cause remains unclear, but hormones like estrogen & progesterone play a role. If close family members had fibroids, your chances of developing them may increase.

Treatment options:
Medications, such as gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), can help shrink fibroids.
Over-the-counter medicine like ibuprofen can provide relief in pain.
Non-invasive procedures, like focused ultrasound surgery and myolysis is performed to shrink fibroids.
Surgical options include laparoscopic myomectomy to remove fibroids.
In extreme cases, a hysterectomy, the removal of the uterus, might be necessary, but it means you won’t be able to give birth in the future.

Home remedies and natural treatments:
Acupuncture, yoga, massage, heat therapy, and dietary changes can be helpful. Opt for green vegetables, green tea, tuna, and salmon, while avoiding high-calorie foods and meats. Managing stress levels and maintaining a moderate weight can also contribute positively.

Fibroids may not need treatment if they’re small or don’t produce symptoms. Understanding fibroids empowers individuals to make informed decisions.
