Vaginal Infections (Vaginitis) – Symptoms, Treatment & More

One friend asked us to create educative video on Vaginal Infections (also called Vaginitis).

Here it goes… What is Vaginal Infection?
It is a fungal infection that causes irritation, discharge and intense itchiness of the vagina and the vulva. This is very common, affects up to 75% of women during their lifetime and it can occur even without having sex.

Symptoms includes Itching, Burning, Unusual discharge, and Discomfort during urination or intercourse.

Let’s understand causes of this infection:
The primary cause is the fungus Candida albicans.

Contributing factors may include antibiotic use, pregnancy, a weakened immune system, and oral contraceptives.

Now, let’s talk about treatment:
Antifungal medications in the form of creams, ointments, tablets, or suppositories (metronidazole or clindamycin, miconazole, terconazole) are usually effective and are taken for three to seven days. In severe cases or for frequent infections, long-course vaginal therapy may be recommended by a doctor.

Maintain good hygiene, Wear cotton underwear that isn’t too tight and Avoid douching.

By following these simple steps, you can reduce your risk of vaginal infections.

Vaginitis can cause discomfort but are generally not serious and respond well to treatment.
