10th October is celebrated as a World Mental Health Day.

The theme for 2023 is ‘Mental health is a universal human right’.
Objective: World Mental Health is celebrated to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health.

What is mental health?
Mental health refers to your emotional and psychological well-being. Having good mental health helps you lead a happy and healthy life.

Mental health statistics:
According to the World Health Organization (W.H.O), more than 450 million people worldwide suffer from mental health disorders.

Depression Statistics: Approximately 264 million people of all ages suffer from depression.

Suicide Rates: Close to 800,000 people die by suicide every year.

Tips for good mental health:
Staying positive and Practice gratitude.
Talking to someone you trust – whether a friend, a family member, or a colleague – can help.
Taking care of your physical health helps improve your mental health and well-being.
Developing a sense of meaning and purpose in life.
Do activities that you enjoy like cooking, playing with your pet, walking in the park, reading a book, or watching a film or TV series.
Use relaxation techniques to manage stress like Music, Yoga and Meditation.
Don’t use harmful substances such as drugs, alcohol or tobacco.
Seek professional help.

Mental health symptoms:
Common signs of several mental illnesses may include:
Not eating enough or overeating.
Having insomnia or sleeping too much.
Distancing yourself from other people and favorite activities.
Feeling fatigue even with enough sleep.
Feeling hopeless, helpless or lost.
Having thoughts of hurting yourself or other people.
Being unable to carry out day-to-day activities.
